Lawyer Conversion

We assist and have assisted many South African lawyers in undertaking the legal conversion process and the once they're admitted to practice in Australia then in applying for their skilled visa application. Only after a lawyer has become admitted in Australia can they then apply for the skilled visa.

The first step is to have your academics and practice experience assessed by the Legal Profession Admission Board (LPAB). This is quite a complex process, but we will help you in that regard and having already done it for so many other lawyers, including our practice principal himself, we can assist in overcoming the requirements as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Once the required academics (usually three subjects) and legal practice requirements (usually two subjects) are met, we will assist you in the admission application. We will also move the admission application on your behalf.  The process generally takes about a year from start to finish, but if need be, we can put strategies in place to speed the process up and then be done in about 6-8 months.

Once you are admitted you will then be in a position to apply for the skilled visa. Only once a lawyer has completed the conversion process and is admitted as an Australian solicitor are they eligible to apply for a skilled visa.

Pathway’s team is qualified and experienced to assist South African lawyers through the entire conversion process until they are admitted in Australia as well in relation to applying for the skilled visa thereafter. We are the only agents that we aware of that assist South African lawyers through the entire process  from start to finish
